Oriental & Area Rug Cleaning

Any loose rug with a woven backing should be cleaned in the plant. This includes all Oriental or machine woven rugs. Plant cleaning offers the advantage of a more thorough cleaning and a controlled environment.

Your rug will be cleaned according to the following steps :

Step 1: Pre-inspection and Pick Up
We will determine as much as we possibly can about the type of rug and inherent qualities that may affect cleaning. We will outline the expected results and cleaning “prescription.”

Step 2: Dry Soil Removal
Woven rugs, especially hand knotted rugs, are designed to hide dry soil. A few years ago, the Eureka company did a study and found that a 9x12 rug could hide 85 pounds of dirt! WOW!! We use a variety of techniques to “dust” the rugs from front to back.

Step 3: Shampoo
Most rugs are cleaned with a gentle Oriental Rug Shampoo that is designed to get maximum cleaning while protecting sensitive natural fibers. We use a soft bonnet to loosen and absorb the dirt.

Step 4: Rinse or Flush
Depending on the type of rug, it will be rinsed with extraction equipment or flushed through with water to remove contaminants. It is vital to know what type of material you are working with on this step. If you have a rug made from natural fiber you have to use water temperature lower than 125 degrees to avoid potential shrinking.

Step 5: Post-spotting
Any spots that were not removed during the regular cleaning process will be treated with specially formulated spotting agents. **Please note that due to the nature of wool fibers used in the majority of oriental rugs, and the ease with which they can be dyed, many food or drink spots may not be removable.

Step 6: Fringe Cleaning
The fringe is treated with shampoos boosted with oxidizing treatments and extracted. Since most fringe is made of cotton, it may not be possible to restore a stained or heavily worn fringe to its original condition.

Step 7: Speed Dry
Once the soil is rinsed away, the rug is dried flat or hung to dry in a controlled environment.

Step 8: Finishing
When dry, it is combed and finished with soft groomers made to set the nap of the rug.

Step 9: Post Inspection and Delivery
Our specialist will give the rug a final inspection and release it for pick up or delivery.

Step 10: (optional) Apply Protectant
Once all the cleaning and spotting of the rug are completed you have the option to apply a protectant to your area rug.
